My Five Worst Movies of the Decade (That Aren't...
This is by no means a complete list of bad movies of the decade, since I didn’t see all of them. And, since The Room is in its own league, I’m not including it here. Hulk [Ang Lee] I Know Who Killed Me A.I. Artificial Intelligence Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever Meet the Spartans

In approximately 12 hours, we leave for my dad’s house. Christmas is going to be light this year, out of financial necessity, but we should have a good time hanging out. Here’s to your holiday. Whatever form it takes, I hope it is a happy one.

Banks: can't live with 'em...
Just watched a story on the news discussing the effect the shitty economy has on small businesses. Essentially, bankruptcies went up about 80%, everyone’s girding their loins. One aspect from the story troubled me further: 22 banks, which received over 11 billion in bailout funds, were not loaning money to small businesses, saying they were too risky. Let’s break this down: Banks...

No Swedish Educational Toys
After a trip to the doctor to see about calming Queta’s cough (RESULT: she got codeine!), the conversation in the car turned toward the subject of raising kids nowadays. Like most other couples, we do wish to have children soon. Imagine, a smaller version of me running around! FEAR IT! Anyhow, I have come up with the following policy: No Swedish Educational Toys. The idea behind NSET is...

Children of Men
Queta was watching the last third of this movie on Cinemax earlier tonight. I love it, but goddamn, my spine kinks up and my heart goes into my throat from the stark brutality. It’s the dry depiction of the violence that gets me; like Schindler’s List, there’s no sentimentality or glorification in the murders. People just get capped in the head, and it moves on. That gets me...

This post is in 1080p
We are both still up. A Julia Child retrospective is on PBS right now. Time Warner has been on a tear lately in regards to adding to its roster of HD channels. Only about a month ago, we got MSNBC, AMC, TCM, and more in HD. Now, filpping through earlier tonight, I’ve learned we now have Vh1, MTV, and Comedy Central in HD as well. My stance on HD: If you do not have an HDTV yet, don’t...

The literal simile
A new grammatical idea I just made up. It’s a simile, but the comparison phrase is just a rephrasing of the original idea. Example: You shot me! My chest feels like it was pierced by a bullet! I’ll take my money now, Strunk & White.

Julie & Julia
Pretty good. Nothing earth-shattering, but good. Streep continues her Ken Jennings-like streak of incredibleness. Amy Adams is alright. I agree with most critics, though not to the degree some of them feel it: They could have cut the Powell plot out and just made it a Julia Child biopic. No slight on Adams, and I don’t outright hate the modern parts of the film, but you kinda wanted them to...

How to make sushi rice
Here’s the technique I mainly learned from my exhaustive 3-hour sushi course from last year. You’ll need: short-grain rice, probably labeled as sushi rice sushi vinegar, or you can make your own with rice vinegar and sugar, you can find recipes. I just find it easier to use the premade a bowl in which to wash the rice another bowl to hold the rice a mesh colander, if you want to...

Decision '09
I have decided to repurpose this Tumblr into a general blog, rather than making it strictly about my unemployment. That’s just an increasingly dry well, and I have other things to discuss anyhow. As you were.

Just got the fastest job rejection letter ever; maybe three hours after I applied. Efficiency!

Interview questions
So, short answer: the interview didn’t go well. I don’t think I jelled with the interviewee, and the office frightened me. But, what irks me are the banal questions that come up during the process; not just in this interview, but in others as well. Some are so cliched, I wonder why anyone uses them anymore. “What would you bring to this company?” - I never know how to...
